Klima Optima Dehumidifiers

Dehumidification is critical for the preservation of valuable items such as antiques, records, artworks, and books. Humidity, in particular, is a natural enemy to preservation. In the presence of high humidity, organic corrosion can develop at a fast rate. The natural environment takes its toll over time, causing paper, parchments, photographic negative film, and organic dyes and colors to deteriorate.

In archives, it is important to maintain a stable climate, concerning both humidity, temperature and filtration of the air. These facilities usually house documents, films, or photographs that need to be stored for a long period of time without being degraded or even affected. The climate inside should lengthen the lifetime of these objects. It should be noted that, compared to e.g. a museum, where the climate also should be kept stable, an archive has fewer visitors and usually less ventilation.

Museums and libraries should maintain humidity levels of 40 – 45% RH. Archival storage may have different requirements depending on the item being stored. Negative film storage requires temperatures of 55-70F and relative humidity of 30%, while drawings and maps can be stored at 50°F and 30% RH.

With Klima Optima, we can provide various humidity management solutions such as our industrial dehumidifiers to help preserve the condition of your Archives and Libraries from mold and corrosion. It is a portable solution that can help keep your artifacts, books, and photos in top condition and dry all year round.
